C. V. Starr is led by Chairman and CEO Maurice R. Greenberg. Mr. Greenberg retired as Chairman and CEO of AIG in 2005 after over 40 years of leadership that created the largest insurance company in history, and generated unprecedented value for shareholders. During Mr. Greenberg's tenure, AIG rose from $300 million in market value to approximately $180 billion in market value. At AIG, Mr. Greenberg pioneered the global trade in services that opened markets for the insurance industry around the world. During his tenure at AIG, Mr. Greenberg broadened AIG's business model by developing the largest commercial underwriting unit in the United States, building the number one life insurer in the world (when combining U.S. and foreign life operations) at that time.
